I was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, where I attended and graduated from Morgan Park High school. Upon graduation, I matriculated to the campus of Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University, where I played football and received my B.S. and M.S. degrees in Elementary Education. Later, I would return to the campus of Alabama A& M university to obtain my certificate in Instructional Leadership.
I am married to Laveda (Lovie) Jackson of Huntsville, AL. We have three children, Derrick Jr, Dillon Myles and Lauren Kennedy.
